Coin Roll Hunting
A great way to find old coins is to purchase rolls of coins from banks. Misstrikes, silver, proof, even rare coins can be found. Post your "Roll Hunting" experiences and questions here!
AFTER READING POST ON THIS SITE think I will Try this http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/board,224.0.html seems like you can average about 10 silver halfs for every 1000 coins min. 40 percent silver and 90 percent silver feel like I just woke up to this. |

Re: Coin Roll Hunting
If one doesn't mind spending 10 hours to find one silver dime, quarter and you feel the time is well spent that's great. Consider it a new hobby. Probably better of spending doing this than playing powerball. Odds are slightly better.

Re: Coin Roll Hunting
I find wheats with some frequency, even nice ones, and a lot of pennies from nearby foreign countries. I once went through $1,000 of half dollars and came up with nothing. Brinks has already mined all the coin rolls they distribute. You'll have better luck asking the teller if she's recieved any half dollars that day than trying to buy rolls. Or find a bank that doesn't use Brinks.

Re: Coin Roll Hunting
I found that once I had exhausted all of the older rols at all of the banks in my area I did not find any more silver halves. I did do very well at first but then I was only getting newer brinks rolls and there was nothing in them but clad.

Re: Coin Roll Hunting
It is pretty much hit or miss. I always ask the teller if they have half dollars. Last week I was able to pick up $10.50 worth, the stack had 1 '64 and a '67. I haven't ordered a box yet...

Re: Coin Roll Hunting
In this day and age, roll hunting is a major waste of time resources for the return involved........IF you find anything at all.
If you are really interested and dedicated in building your PM holdings, you are far better off using that wasted time finding and working a part-time job or maybe even eBaying old unwanted items and then simply dumping all of your earnings/proceeds into gold and/or silver. The wife and I did the eBay thing hot and heavy for a couple of years, and added alot of Krugerrands to the stash. Great feeling to trade unwanted junk for real solid gold ! |
Re: Coin Roll Hunting
I do it for fun.
I don't buy tons of rolls of coins and sort through them. Instead, I get a portion of the cash I plan to spend that week in rolls of half dollars. I check to see if there are any silver ones and spend the rest. I rather enjoy the odd looks that cashiers give me as they scurry off to their supervisors to find out if it is real money or not. :D :bull-buddy-icon: |
Re: Coin Roll Hunting
I've always liked to use uncommon money, like half dollar or dollar coins and $2 bills.
Unfortunately this brings on flashbacks of having recieved large quantities of Franklin halves from the tellers at a local bank. I thought Franklin was ugly so I spent him. :banghead: If only I knew then what I know now. |
